Northwest Reno is on the southern side of the foothills separating Reno from the north valleys and consists of diverse housing neighborhoods like West University, Kings Row, and West 4th Street. The northwest Reno community is 10 minutes from downtown Reno and the University of Nevada, Reno. When you?re near the university, stop by Archie's, a treasured bar and restaurant. South of that 24-hour pub is Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and Ike?s Sandwiches. Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is east of the restaurants and is one of the largest recreational areas in Reno. The park provides a dog park, hiking trails, a playground, volleyball court, and the William D May Museum and Arboretum. The Great Reno Balloon Race calls Rancho San Rafael home, taking over the northern fields every fall and drawing nearly 150,000 visitors for the event. Whitaker Park is a neighborhood park north of downtown with a playground and tennis courts. Idlewild Park is another fantastic recreational area south of the community. The park is home to baseball and softball fields, a basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, playground, and the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway. The park is complete with rose gardens and a community pool alongside the magnificent Truckee River. Plus, Idlewild Park hosts Food Truck Friday every summer.
